1. 어린왕자(The Little Prince) 영문으로 읽기

어린 왕자는 프랑스 공군 비행사이자 작가인 앙투안 생텍쥐페리가 1943년 발표한 소설입니다. 세계적인 명작인 어린왕자를 영문으로 읽으면서 그 감동을 느껴보았으면 합니다. 

 

 

 

Once when i was six years old i saw a magnificent picture in a book, called True Stories from Nature, about the primeval forest. 

나는 6살 때 태고의 숲에 대한 True Stories form Nature라 불리는 책에서 멋진 그림을 보았다.

 

It was a picture of a boa constrictor in the act of swallowing an animal.

그 그림은 한 동물을 삼키고 있는 보아뱀 사진이었다.

 

Here is a copy of the drawing.

여기에 그 그림의 복사본이 있다.

 

In the book it said Boa constrictors swallow their prey whole, without chewing it.

그 책에서 보아뱀들은 동물을 씹지않고 동물 전체를 삼키고 있다고 말했다. 

 

After that they are not able to move , and they sleep through the six months that they need for digestion.

보아뱀들은 움직일 수 없어서 소화를 위해 6달 동안 잠을 잔다.

 

I pondered deeply, then, over the adventures of the jungle.

그리고 나는 정글모험에 대해 깊이 생각했다.

 

And after some work with a colored pencil I succeeded in making my first drawing.

나는 색연필로 그림 그리기를 한 이후에 나의 첫 그림을 그리는 것에 성공했다.

 

I showd my masterpiece to the grown-ups, and asked them whether the drawing frightened them.

나는 어른들에게 나의 걸작을 보여주었고 그림이 어른들을 놀라게 했는지 물어보았다.

 

But they answered "Frighten? why should any one be frightened by a hat?"

그러나 어른들은 "놀람" 왜 모자를 보고 놀라야하지?라며 대답했다.
