8. 어린왕자(The Little Prince) 영문으로 읽기

At that moment I caught a gleam of light in the impenetrable mystery of his presence and I demanded, abruptly

그 순간 나는 그의 존재의 불가해한 수수께끼 속에서 한줄기 빛을 잡았고 나는 갑자기 요구했다.

 

 

"Do you come from another planet?"

너는 다른 행성에서 왔어?

But he did not reply.

He tossed his head gently, without taking his eyes from my plane.

And he sank into a reverie which lasted a long time.

Then, taking my sheep out of his pocket, he buried himself in the contemplation of his treasure.

You can imagine how my curiosity was aroused by this half-confidence about the "other planets."

I made a great effort, therefore, to find out more on this subject.

"My little man, where do you come from? What is this 'where I live, ' of which you speak? Where do you want to take your sheep?"

After a reflective silence he answered

사색에 잠긴 침묵이후에 그(어린 왕자)는 대답했다.

"The thing that is so good about the box you have given me is that at night he can use it as his house."

네가 나에게 준 그 상자가 너무 좋은 것은 밤에 양은 집으로 그 상자를 사용할 수 있는 것이야.

"That is so. And if you are good I will give you a string, too, so that you can tie him during the day, and a post to tie him to, "

맞아. 그리고 네가 괜찮다면 나는 너에게 줄을 줄거야. 니가 낮동안 양을 묶을 수 있도록 그리고 양을 묶을 수 있도록 기둥도 줄게.

 

But the little prince seemed shocked by this offer.

그러나 어린 왕자는 이 제안에 충격받은 것 같았다.

"Tie him! Waht a queer idea!"

그를 묶으라고! 이상한 생각이야

"But if you don't tie him." I said, "he will wander off somewhere, and get lost."

그러나 "네가 양을 묶지 않는다면 양은 어디론가 떠나서 길을 잃을 수 있어"라며 나는 말했다.

 

My friend broke into another peal of laughter "But where do you think he would go?"

나의 친구는 또 한 번의 웃음을 터뜨렸다. "그러나 너는 양이 어디로 갈 거라고 생각해?"

"Anywhere. Straight ahead of him."

"어떤 곳이든. 양 바로 앞으로 가."

Then the little prince said, earnestly "That doesn't matter. Where I live, everything is so small!"

그때 어린 왕자는 진지하게 말했다. "그것은 중요하지 않다. 내가 사는 곳 모든 것은 너무 작아!"

And, with perhaps a hint of sadness, he added "Straight ahead of him, nobody can go very far."

그리고 약간의 슬픔과 함께 그(어린 왕자)는 덧붙였다 " 양 앞으로 똑바로 가, 아무도 멀리 갈 수 없어"
